The Week Ahead: 5 Things to Know

A heads up for those who live or work in Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne, Villanova and Rosemont.

1. The Lower Merion Board of School Directors (agenda) are set to vote on, among other things, the 2012-13 budget.

2. Local volunteer firefighters and EMTs will be honored at the “Celebration of Hometown Heroes” on Tuesday, June 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the board room of the Lower Merion Township Administration Building, 75 E. Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore. The 3rd annual event, held by the Main Line Chamber Foundation, awards scholarships to college students who also volunteer with local fire companies. This year, recipients include a  volunteer, and students at , and . The public is welcome to attend Tuesday's event. 

3. The last day of school for Lower Merion School District students is Thursday. Eighth-graders will have a high school promotion ceremony Wednesday at  (noon). will have a fifth-grade promotion ceremony on Thursday.

4. All Lower Merion Township libraries will have reduced hours on Thursday, June 14 for staff training, according to the Lower Merion Township website. , , ,  and Belmont Hills libraries will be open from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.

5. is hosting an . Reservations are required for the old-fashioned event featuring Guernsey ice cream. The social is $5 per person and $15 for families (dads eat free).
