Restaurant Review: Gladwyne Market

Whip up a delicious healthy dinner in under five minutes with a visit here.

Restaurant: Gladwyne Market Address: 359 Righters Mill Rd., Gladwyne, PA 19035 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★ Style: Local market with extensive prepared foods section Food: Sandwiches, salads, seafood, American classics, sushi and vegetable sides Atmosphere: Brightly lit and welcoming Parking: Small lot Service: Friendly and accommodating Price Range: A bit pricier than other markets Unique Features: A haven for local goods including Bassett’s ice cream, Bucks County Coffee Co. beans and a wide array of Di Bruno Bros. products. There is also a selection of gluten-free goods. Every time I see a Wal-Mart or other such super store, I feel more than a little sad. Each warehouse of ridiculously cheap goods has often crushed the local mom-and-…

Thanks for this review! When Food Source closed in Bryn Mawr, we were so bummed. They had such a great selection of prepared foods and beautiful produce. Sounds like Gladwyne Market can fill the void.   more ›

Restaurant Review: Pretzel Boy's

This week food writer Clara Park reviews Pretzel Boy's in Havertown.

Restaurant: Pretzel Boy’s Address: 39 Brookline Blvd., Havertown, PA 19083 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★ Style: Pretzel shop Food: Numerous incarnations of pretzels, custard and ices Atmosphere: Brightly lit, large service counter and a high table for standing and snacking Parking: Metered street and lot parking Service: Friendly and casual Price Range: Most items are under $5 Unique Feature: Mustard bar Before the advent of Auntie Anne’s and the availability of soft pretzels at every convenience store north of the Mason Dixon line there was the Philly soft pretzel. Baked without much more than flour, water and salt the soft pretzel is as symbolic of Philadelphia as the Liberty Bell or the beloved cheesesteak. It’s no surprise that in the …

Restaurant Review: Crust

This week food writer Clara Park reviews Crust in Bryn Mawr.

Restaurant: Crust Address: 872 W. Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★1/2 Style: Upscale cafeteria and restaurant hybrid Food: Brick oven pizza, sandwiches and salads Atmosphere: Brightly lit interior with long communal tables Parking: Metered street parking Service: Decent Price Range: Most options are under $10 Unique Feature: Wide array of beverage options including La Colombe coffee, Naked juices and Old Philadelphia gourmet sodas. The other day I was on a quest for delicious thin crust pizza in Philly. I went to Nomad Pizza on 7th between South and Kater only to find that they are still not open. I drove to the other side of the city to one of my favorite places, Zavino, at 13th and Sansom, just so I could…

Restaurant Review: Narberth Cafe and Catering

This week food writer Clara Park reviews Narberth Cafe and Catering in Narberth.

Restaurant: Narberth Café and Catering Address: 109 N. Narberth Ave., Narberth, PA 19072 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★ Style: Luncheonette Food: American diner classics and Italian offerings Atmosphere: Brightly lit interior with wooden fixtures Parking: Metered street parking Service: Good Price Range: Inexpensive Unique Feature: Children’s menu and early bird dinner specials Any restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner has to be somewhat ambitious. Yes, there are three different menus but what is perhaps most challenging is staffing. There are multiple shifts for all stations in the front and back of house of the restaurant. Narberth Café and Catering seems to have it all under control but I suspect the manageable size of the …

Restaurant Review: Pizzarella Grille

This week Patch reviews Pizzarella Grille in Bryn Mawr.

Restaurant: Pizzarella Grille Address: 958 County Line Rd., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★1/2 Style: Pizza, sandwich and salad cafe Food: Better than average pastas, melts, hoagies, chicken sandwiches and salads Atmosphere: Warm and welcoming Parking: Medium size lot Service: Efficient and polite Price Range: Most items are less than $10 Unique Feature: This place has signature salads and freshly baked breadsticks. The pizza shop and salad café are pretty much ubiquitous dining outposts in suburban areas and college towns. Despite the anti-carb trend that is causing many restaurants to announce all their low-carb offerings, Pizzarella Grille is unabashedly pro-carb. This casual eatery offers plenty of pizzas (hand tossed…

Restaurant Review: The Grog

This week food writer Clara Park reviews The Grog in Bryn Mawr.

Restaurant: The Grog Address: 863 W. Lancaster Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★ Style: Neighborhood bar and restaurant Food: A step up from typical bar food with pasta and seafood options on the menu. Atmosphere: Lively neighborhood bar Parking: Metered street parking Service: Casual and friendly Price Range: Moderate Unique Feature: This place has a decent beer selection, upstairs dining area and drink specials. The Grog always seems to be a local hangout of the numerous college kids on the Main Line. While it attracts a more tame crowd than say, Brownies 23 East, it is not without its own level of craziness depending on the time of day. We set out for an early dinner on a Friday night (to avoid the droves). As it …

Restaurant Review: Flip and Bailey's Bar and Grill

This week Patch reviews Flip and Bailey's Bar and Grill in Rosemont.

Restaurant: Flip and Bailey’s Bar and Grill Address: 900 Conestoga Rd., Rosemont, PA 19010 Rating: (out of 5 stars): ★★★1/2 Style: Neighborhood bar and restaurant Food: American classics and standard pub fare Atmosphere: Lively and ideal for watching the game Parking: Lot Service: Very friendly Price Range: Moderate Unique Features: Game room, free wi-fi and frequent lunch bonus card (buy five lunches get one free.
