Farmers Market Renovation Due to End By May

Several retail spaces are planned at Rosemont Square, the former Borders site.

The developers of the Rosemont Square commercial complex are projecting that in the spring, a farmers market will open where a Borders bookstore once stood. "Right now, we realistically think we can get the farmers market open in May," said Steve Bajus, whose St. Davids company S.W. Bajus Ltd. is currently renovating the site and looking to lease farmers market-adjacent retail and office space, too. Bajus is reluctant to announce an opening date while the possibility of construction-slowing winter storms still looms. Crews also have had to refurbish a ramped entrance to meet tighter ADA regulations, Bajus said. The market should have room for 20 to 25 vendors and run at least three days a week year-round, Bajus said. Adjacent stores would …

Manny's Place Vies for Space in Rosemont Square

The local seafood chain's owner wants to open a new spot in August.

Correction: A previous version of this story indicated the restaurant would be opening in Rosemont Square in August; it is among several candidates for space in a farmers market. Manny's Place, a seafood restaurant that recently closed a location in Tredyffrin, plans to open in Rosemont Square in August, owner Sharyn Tehrani said Friday. However, Joe Mulligan of S.W. Bajus LTD, which owns the Rosemont Square property, said Manny's is among several candidates being considered for space in a farmers market expected to open in the old Borders space in this fall. Manny's Place has two other locations: one in Bala Cynwyd and another in Chestnut Hill.  Read a Patch restaurant review of the Bala Cynwyd spot here. Click here for a review of the …

Rosemont Square Farmers Market to Open in Fall

Property owners offer more details on the project to fill the old Borders space.

While Rosemont Square owners say they’re still in the beginning stages of putting together a farmers market in the old Borders space, they are aiming for a fall opening.  They’re now working on architectural drawings for the building façade, making engineering plans and meeting with people to put together a good tenant mix, said Steve Bajus, of S.W. Bajus, LTD. The building will remain two stories, with the former Borders entrance staying where it is, Bajus said. “What we try to do is serve the needs of the immediate community,” Bajus said. “It made sense to put a food operation in there.” Bajus said he ran a farmers market in Chestnut Hill for 28 years, so he has some familiarity with putting one together. He expects about 25 to 30 …

Farmers Market Coming to Rosemont Square

The market will fill space left by the Borders store.

A farmers market is "coming soon" to Rosemont Square, building owners announced on their website. The building owners, S.W. Bajus LTD, are advertising the space to potential tenants as "the only fresh food option from Wayne to Ardmore." Other perks as advertised on the site are: free parking; Lancaster Avenue signage and exposure; proximity to I-76/Schuylkill Expressway, I-476/Blue Route and SEPTA's Paoli-Thorndale line; a strong residential customer base; and joining long-term Rosemont Square tenants Gullifty's and Rosemont Pharmacy. The space that used to be occupied by Borders has been vacant since the bookstore closed in September 2011. Bryn Mawr has been without a grocery store while the ACME is being renovated and FoodSource closed. …

A while ago, when I passed by the area, I stopped in and asked some of the remaining stores what the status was of the farmer's market. Apparently there was a problem between the dude responsible for the farmer's market and either Montgomery County or Lower Merion - I kind of got the impression it's a no-go considering the lack of progress over the months I went there.   more ›
