Police Blotter: DUI in Villanova

On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne: DUI: An officer in a Shipley School parking lot was approached by a motorist about 6:30 p.m. June 3, police said, and was told of a vehicle being operated in a reckless manner. The officer then pursued the vehicle, which was traveling at a high rate of speed and was drifting across the line, police said. The officer caught up with the vehicle at Montgomery Avenue and Matsonford Road in Villanova, police said. The driver smelled strongly of alcohol and failed a field sobriety test, police said, and refused three times to provide a sample for a chemical breath test. Police: $1,100 in Lawn Ornaments Stolen in Bryn Mawr

The items were stolen from Pennstone Road.

A lifetime collection of lawn ornaments and sculptures was stolen from the 700 block of Pennstone Road in Bryn Mawr, police said. The items went missing between May 22 and 24 and include a large lead turtle, a lead rooster, lead frogs, two bird statues, and sculptures of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. The collection is estimated to be worth $1,100, police said.

On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne: Burglary: On May 22 between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., $600 cash and boxes of children’s clothing were stolen from the 1000 block of Lancaster Avenue, according to police. The apartment door had been left unlocked and there were no signs of force. The suspect, as described by a witness, was a 5’10” black man with dark skin and a medium build, last seen walking briskly westbound on Lancaster Avenue, police said. Public drunkenness: A Havertown man was arrested and charged with public drunkenness in the early hours of May 24. On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne: Theft: A victim was selling the contents of a house on the 400 block of North Ithan Avenue in Bryn Mawr, police said, and agreed to sell two rugs to someone. The person said they would pay for the rugs upon picking them up at a West Chester dry cleaner. The person then picked the rugs up at the cleaner’s without paying for them. The rugs were valued at $750, police said. The theft was reported May 15.  DUI: Police pulled over a man who drove through a steady red signal traveling east on Lancaster Avenue about 2:03 a.m. May 16, police said. On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne: Burglary: At 12:25 p.m. on May 8, police received an alarm call from the 1000 block of Stony Lane in Gladwyne. Police responded to the call and found the side door of the house leading to the laundry room had been forced open. Police said there had been minor ransacking of the house, but nothing was reported missing. Criminal mischief to vehicle: The driver's side mirror was smashed on a vehicle parked on South Roberts Road overnight from May 11 to 12, police said. Police: Arrested Villanova Student Tries to Set Fire to Cell Mattress

A 22-year-old Villanova student on May 8 was arrested and charged with public drunkenness and then tried to set a mattress on fire while he was being held, according to the Lower Merion Police Department. Mateusz Przewloka, a Villanova student from Poland, was staggering along the 700 block of W Lancaster Ave. in Bryn Mawr, waving his arms, when he was stopped by police at 9:02 p.m. May 8, police said. Police had to hold Przewloka up to keep him from falling, and the officer on duty determined that Przewloka was intoxicated to a degree that made him dangerous to himself, according to the police. Przewloka was transported back to police headquarters to sober up, police said, and while he was in the cell, Przewloka used a cigarette lighter …

Police Blotter: $7,000 in Jewelry Stolen from Rosemont Home

On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne: Theft: Jewelry was stolen from a home on the 600 block of N. Ithan Avenue in Rosemont sometime between December 2011 and April 15, police said. The victim last saw the jewelry, worth about $7,000, in a jewelry box in the bedroom, police said. At first the victim thought it had just been misplaced but then realized it was gone, police said. There were no signs of force, and investigation is ongoing, police said. Underage drinking: Police were investigating an incident at Lancaster and Summit Grove avenues in Bryn Mawr about 1:40 a.m. April 27 when an underage man got involved, police said. On Monday afternoon, Lower Merion police reported to news media the following incidents from the past week in Bryn Mawr and Gladwyne: Burglary: A home on the 1500 block of Willowbrook Lane in Villanova was burglarized sometime between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. April 17, police said. Stolen were an iPod, a 55-inch TV, a MacBook, Kindle and turntable mixer. Police said a locked side door had been forced open, which caused damage to a wall. There was some ransacking discovered inside, police said. Nobody was seen or heard, police said. Total value of items stolen was about $2,000, police said.
