Woman Pleads Guilty to Theft of $3M Ben Franklin Bust

Still missing from the home is an expensive picture of a famous composer.

A former housekeeper of a Bryn Mawr home pleaded guilty on Monday to charges related to the theft of a rare and valuable bust of Benjamin Franklin. Andrea Lawton, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Court to burglary and conspiracy, according to CBS. The theft took place on Aug. 24 and was recovered a month later in Maryland. The bust has been valued at about $3 million. In December, Lawton pleaded guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen property. According to CBS: Montgomery County prosecutor Kevin Steele believes they know the motive: “the theft of something very valuable, and the second, I think, came as a result of her being fired.” Steele plans to ask for significant jail time because she hasn’t …

Theft, Burglary in Bryn Mawr Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Lower Merion Police Department. DUI A 52-year-old woman from West Conshohocken was arrested for DUI on April 16 around 11 p.m. near Pennsylvania Avenue and Wayside Road in Bryn Mawr. She registered a BAC of .175 percent.  Theft An employee of an office in the 800 block of Old Lancaster Road in Bryn Mawr reported that his iPod Touch was left on his desk in his locked office on the evening of April 16, and when he returned the following morning it was gone. Burglary A home in the 800 block of Old Gulph Road in Bryn Mawr was broken into during the day of April 17. Jewelry was taken.

Drug Possession, Criminal Mischief in Police Blotter

The following information was provided by Lower Merion Police Department. Drug possession, disorderly conduct A 24-year-old Ardmore man was cited for public drunkenness, drug possession and disorderly conduct at 12:06 a.m. on April 12. Police on patrol heard screaming from Maloney’s Pub, and saw the man in question yelling and trying to push his way into the bar, where he said his sister was, according to police. Security at the bar told police the man had been refused entry when he presented an ID that said he was 32. In speaking with the man, police noticed a strong odor of alcohol, and despite asking the man to give his correct address several times, the 24-year-old Ardmore man continued to  give false names, according to the report. The following information was provided by the Lower Merion Township Police Department. Liquor law violation A 19-year-old York, PA woman was cited for liquor law violation after she stopped her car in the middle of the road near the Rosemont McDonalds, police said. On April 10 at 12:48 a.m., police on patrol pulled up behind a stopped vehicle to talk to the driver and asked for identification. The 19-year-old passed by a New York drivers license while looking for her ID, and tried to conceal it when police asked about it, according to the report. Eventually, she produced the license, and was cited for possession of false identification and a parking violation, police said. Public Drunkenness, Disorderly Conduct in Bryn Mawr Police Blotter

Disorderly conduct A 59-year-old Bryn Mawr man from the 1000 block of Wyndham Avenue was cited for disorderly conduct at 4:24 p.m. on April 10 for shouting obscenities and threats at his landlord in reaction to an ongoing dispute, police said. Public drunkenness A 21-year-old Bryn Mawr man was cited for public drunkenness near Maloney’s Pub on April 11, police said. Officers on patrol observed the man staggering as he walked along Lancaster Avenue at 1:24 a.m., trying to untangle his iPod and hitting passerbys in the face, according to the report.
