HotHouse Coffee Opens in Bryn Mawr

The shop replaces the former MilkBoy Coffee.

HotHouse Coffee opened Thursday morning, replacing the former MilkBoy. The coffee house closed for renovations and rebranding at the beginning of July and now has an entirely new interior, with walnut hardwood floors, handmade zinc countertops, a small living room-type space and bamboo tabletops and bar front. The bar has also been expanded. "The transformation—it's incredible," said manager Michael O'Malley. "To see the plan and then to actually be in here and see it, it looks exactly like the 3D rendering." Local architect Form A+D brought owner Natalia Carignan's vision to life, O'Malley said. "They deserve mad props," he said. O'Malley said they plan to add lots of flowers to the decor as well—"It is a 'HotHouse,' after all," he said. …

What a beautiful transformation! Form A+D also designed my store, Swan Dancewear in Narberth. Paul Bloomfield is an amazing architect, designer, and easy to work with. Highly recommend! Looking forward to the grand opening of HotHouse!   more ›

Former Bryn Mawr MilkBoy Gets New Name

The coffee shop will reopen in early August.

The Bryn Mawr coffee house long known as MilkBoy is changing names—to HotHouse Coffee—and reopening from renovations in early August, owners announced on Facebook. The 822 W. Lancaster Ave. coffee shop changed ownership in March and closed for renovations and rebranding at the beginning of July. HotHouse Coffee will continue to serve Counter Culture coffee and will maintain its same staff and discounts for students and Bryn Mawr Film Institute patrons, owner Natalia Carignan said in March. A few additional snacks will be added to the menu, according to the HotHouse Coffee Facebook profile.
