Gladwyne Library Renovations Project Seeks Input

Proposed renovations include adding an exterior elevator at the main entrance.

Lower Merion Township is seeking community input on the Gladwyne Library renovation project, which along with the Ardmore Library project will not begin until construction is complete on Ludington and Bala Cynwyd libraries. The Gladwyne and Ardmore projects will both involve the installation of elevators, according to Lower Merion Township. The Lower Merion Board of Commissioners last Wednesday tabled a discussion about Gladwyne library construction so the board could be provided with feedback in July. The Historical Architectural Review Board has asked the architect, Vitetta, to make some adjustments to the design. Date Set for Ludington Reopening

Township commissioners also talked Wednesday night about embarking on simultaneous library renovations in Gladwyne and Ardmore.

Ludington Library in Bryn Mawr will reopen on Bryn Mawr 100 Day, Sept. 8, director of libraries Christine Steckel announced at Wednesday night's Lower Merion Board of Commissioners meeting. The library has been undergoing renovations since early 2010 and was originally supposed to reopen in early 2011, officials said. Construction is in its final stage now, shelves and furniture are expected to be returned to the building soon, and staff will be trained on several new technological systems before reopening, Steckel said. Commissioner Lew Gould railed against the administration and the "embarrassment" of the Ludington project's cost and time overruns. Gladwyne Library League to Host Annual Arts and Crafts Show

The annual art show runs from March 5 to March 10.

The Gladwyne Library League is preparing for its annual Arts and Crafts show in early March. Exhibitors must be Lower Merion residents or Lower Merion library card holders, according to a flyer announcing the event. Those interested should bring their entries to the Gladwyne Library between 5 and 8 p.m. Thursday, March 1; 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, March 2; or 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 3. Brochures and entry forms are available at the library's front desk, according to the flyer. Update: Driver Injured in Gladwyne Library Accident

A stone retaining wall was also damaged.

A Tuesday afternoon accident at Gladwyne Library left a woman injured and a retaining wall damaged, police said Wednesday. "As a driver was exiting her vehicle the vehicle started to move, the car door struck the operator and she fell into the path of the vehicle and her leg was run over," according to Lower Merion police. The car then hit the wall and another vehicle before coming to a stop, police said. The incident happened about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday. The woman was transported to Bryn Mawr Hospital with leg injuries, police said.
