AAA reports nearly double the number of emergency calls as last year.
You aren’t the only one feeling the cold. Your car is too. AAA Mid-Atlantic reported that on Tuesday it responded to nearly double the number of battery calls it had on the same day last year. Batteries are the biggest reason motorist call during a cold spell, according to AAA. “When temperatures plummet, automotive failures skyrocket. We know that the severe cold will cause calls to AAA for jump starts and frozen locks increase tremendously, but most of these calls are preventable with appropriate maintenance,” said Jenny M. Millions will travel more than 50 miles for Christmas and New Year’s this year. See how many of them are from the Philadelphia area.
More than 1 million travelers from the Philadelphia area (or one in four) will travel 50 miles or more away from home during the year-end holidays, according the AAA Mid-Atlantic. That’s an increase of nearly 2 percent over last year. The year-end holiday travel period is defined as Saturday, Dec. 22 to Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. AAA Mid-Atlantic’s holiday travel forecast is based on travelers’ intentions and historical data as of mid-November. “Despite high gas prices and slow economic recovery, more than 25 percent of Philadelphia area residents (over 1 million people) plan to travel during the upcoming 11-day holiday travel season,” said Jenny M.
