2 Teens Charged in Bala Cynwyd BB Gun Stickup

The victim, a 22-year-old Philadelphia woman, was uninjured, police say.

Two Philadelphia teenagers were arrested in Bala Cynwyd on Wednesday after threatening a woman with a BB gun and trying to rob her, according to Lower Merion police. An unidentified 16-year-old boy is being held at Montgomery County Prison and is to be charged as an adult, while another boy, 14, is being held at the Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center. Police believe the pair confronted a 22-year-old Philadelphia woman just before 5 p.m., when she got off a SEPTA bus at Old Lancaster and Gramercy roads in Bala Cynwyd, said Tom Walsh, Lower Merion's public information officer. From a Criminology point of view, residents of the city see Lower Merion as an easy target with valuable people and things. Bala Cynwyd Woman Escapes Close Brush with Intruder

According to Lower Merion Police, the Cynwyd Circle resident was uninjured.

A Bala Cynwyd woman got a scare earlier this month when she spotted a prospective intruder attempt to enter her home, Lower Merion Police are reporting. The woman was uninjured and, according to police, nothing was stolen. According to police, on May 13 sometime before 3:14 p.m., a resident of the 500 block of Cynwyd Circle was walking her dog around the neighborhood when she saw a suspicious person in her backyard. The woman entered her home and, from inside, saw the man—who she described to police as an approximately 18-year-old black male with a thin build, dark pants, and a black T-shirt—attempt to open her back door. Two Bala Cynwyd Homes Burglarized

The homes were hit in tandem over the weekend, according to Lower Merion Police.

A burglar, or team of burglars, robbed a pair of Bala Cynwyd homes over the weekend, Lower Merion Police reported. According to the department, both of the burglaries were of homes on the 30 block of Chestnut Avenue. Multiple pieces of jewelry were taken from both homes. In each case, police believe the burglar(s) used a pillowcase to remove the haul. At 7:45 a.m. on Sunday, Lower Merion Police received a report of the first theft. The homeowner told police that he and his wife had left the house at 1 p.m. on Saturday, securing the windows and doors before leaving, and when they returned that morning they found some of their personal affects scattered in their front lawn. Man Runs Away from DUI Checkpoint, Police Say

According to Lower Merion Police, the man ended up hopping into another vehicle.

Lower Merion Police arrested a 23-year-old Conshohocken man after the department said he attempted to elude a DUI checkpoint with an escape involving two separate vehicles. On Saturday at 12:26 a.m., Lower Merion Police were sitting at a checkpoint they had established at Belmont Avenue and Belmont Terrace in Bala Cynwyd when they saw a car approach the area and stop prior to the checkpoint. Police say a man got out of the driver side door and began running westbound on Belmont Avenue, away from the checkpoint. Police say they ran after the driver, but as they approached him he entered another vehicle, which police later learned belonged to a friend. Knife-Wielding Verizon Robbers Arrested, Police Say

The men were arrested in Philadelphia on Friday, according to Lower Merion police.

Two men were arrested in Philadelphia on Friday and charged with the April 10 knife-point robbery of Verizon Wireless in Ardmore, according to Lower Merion Township public information officer Tom Walsh. Dale Woodson, 30, and Joshua Jackson, 25, both of Philadelphia, were located and arrested after police served a warrant on the 5400 block of Chester Avenue in Philadelphia, according to Walsh. A second warrant was served on the 5800 block of Ashland Avenue, also a Philadelphia address, where evidence from the robbery was found. According to Lower Merion Police, on April 10 at approximately 11:14 a.m., Jackson and Woodson entered Verizon, produced knives, and forced the staff behind the counter. Lower Merion Police made four alcohol or drug related arrests between May 8 and May 12, according to a briefing the department provided to the media last week.

13-Year-Old Girl Missing

The teen was last seen in the company of an adult male.

Chester and Montgomery counties have issued alerts for a 13-year-old girl from Reading, who was last seen Wednesday. Destiny Hernandez is described by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as an endangered runaway. Destiny may be in the company of an adult male. She has a scar on her left hand. When Destiny was last seen, she had red and orange highlights in her hair. -according to her missing poster. Hernandez is described as being 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 180 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. DUI Checkpoints Come to Lower Merion

Township police will conduct roving checkpoints.

Lower Merion Police will conduct impaired driving checkpoints and roving patrols through the township from May 17 to May 19. According to the township, the initiative is part of a partnership with a national impaired driving crackdown that entails highly visible enforcement activities and uses the tagline, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”       The sobriety checkpoint is being funded by a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation grant.

Trio of Burglaries in Lower Merion, Police Report

One family had jewelry and Devon Horse Show tickets stolen.

Lower Merion Police are investigating a trio of burglaries that occurred in the township in the last week, the department told reporters at a recent briefing. Charges are yet to be filed in each crime.
