The deciding factor in the trial is going to be the excessive force charge. If not for that, thisRead More would be open and shut. My question is, if the police knew these two were active break in perps, why were they still on the street? As far as I'm concerned, his biggest error was the follow-on shots. I have a 9mm by my bed, but if I was waiting to see if someone would break in, my choice would be my 12 ga. with #4 buck. The defense atty should play the elderly/fear from prior break in/ineffectiveness of the police to protect angle. The final lesson is, if you don't want bad things to happen, don't break in to other people's houses!

If he would've just adopted a dog at the pound this tragedy wouldn't have happened and threeRead More people's lives wouldn't be messed up. A Good dog is always the best thing against a burglar!

Henny, I have 2 dogs "from the pound". As they are 1 pork chop away from being your bestRead More friend, I'll still keep my firearms.

Cops got a chance to play with their toys. Relax people. It's not like you had to respondRead More personally. Stop saying it's a waste of money. Then money is absolutely minimal. These guys were not called away from their golf games. I would also like to compliment the responders for not accidentally killing someone. It showed professionalism and did not add to the "trend" of killing "innocent" people; which is becoming an issues to watch. The people incensed over this should focus their anger on plastic shopping bags as many others are doing over at another great Patch piece. Evil lurks at the checkout counters across America!

Linda Mahoney >> the doorbell prank was just that, a prank, that involved actual self risk,Read More courage and cost nothing to do. these brats today have no respect for wasting resouces whilst sitting ontheir fanny all day.

I was in the car with a friend, once; he was driving. Upon seeing a large SUV with its driverRead More holding a phone to their ear, my friend pointed at the driver and started telling me about how dangerous "distracted drivers" are. Well, while pointing and ranting, my friend had swerved over the line and dangerously close to hitting the large SUV, which was on a steady course in the middle of its lane. The moral of this story is that "distracted drivers" are not always who you'd expect.

Sure Ed, makes sense to ban someone who cares about the world we I've in.
Scott Ritchie April 23, 2014 at 03:29 pm
The only positive effect I have seen is that a review of the phone of a driver who was involved in aRead More fatal accident showed that he was texting at the time and it added to the "he was stupid and careless" evidence. Personally, I would love to see a law against "driving like an idiot" which would cover texting, phone, putting on makeup, reading a book held on your steering wheel, changing clothes, etc... all of which I have seen on 422
The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld Michigan's ban on affirmative action in college admissions.
Seamus Carty April 23, 2014 at 06:47 pm
"The goal of Affirmative was to right an over two hundred years wrong." My family did notRead More get to the US until 1948. Are we part of the two hundred years of wrong? Why should my orthopedic surgeon's kid get preferential treatment over my nephew (son of a plumber) based on the relative complexions?
Porter gladstone April 23, 2014 at 08:25 pm
Hmm--it's all about academics. That's awesome. I wonder why kids play lacrosse or volunteer atRead More church, or play an instrument. After all, you shoulndt take into account one factor other than test scores. Cool. I just happen to think that not many of you believe that's the way it works.
Porter gladstone April 23, 2014 at 10:39 pm
liu wei. Not sure what you mean ""not quit the same." (genius). Really? Oh IRead More thought that lacrosse and affirmative action are the same thing. I only expect people with 90 and above i.q. to understand that test scores are not the only determinants. College admission committees take into account a whole multitude of factors. People on this thread are asking for scholastic considerations only. Playing lacrosse is one factor. Being the captain another. Being the captain of a country championship team another. Being the captain of a state championship team and making all american another. growing up with a single parent --another. Growing up in a ghetto and having the character and drive to defy peer groups in order to seek out a better life another. Sure lacrosse is different than being a minority. So are the experiences that students have in more challenged environments. College admissions officers gauge the probability of success of a student, but also what diversity they may bring in order to broaden the worlds of other students. Where did you go to school Liu? Maybe you went to a school that offered online courses? Because the school that I went to considered the conversations you have in dorm rooms as much an education as going to Econ 101.
Everyday Mathematics is just one of the programs that makes a heck of a lot of $ off of the millions of textbooks sold to schools that teach to the 'Core.' The Common Core isn't just restricting for teachers & students, it's lining people's pockets.

Also on the Northville MI Parents for Educational Excellence page you can see links to the tests toRead More see how bias they are. Teachers will teach to the tests and if they are teaching something you don't like - too bad because it is on the test! *****There is also a link to the social studies standards. The social studies standards and science standards are liberal-bias, anti-American and actually just not accurate in a lot of cases. They tell our kids that they as citizens are meant to follow all the rules of the big bad government, for example. Things that made this country great and are still in existence, are few and far between - like the government is for the people and by the people and has limited powers... You wont find what the powers that be (follow the money) don't want the kids to learn. ******We all know what Hitler and many others have said about how to get to a nation and that is thru the kids minds... The proof is all there - please dig! Read the tests. ******We all WISH this was just "minimum standards"!
Tamara April 23, 2014 at 10:06 pm
IB is very anti-American, anti-Christian, etc. Please see the Northville MI Parents for EducationalRead More Excellence FB page for a few posts on IB, including a book review of the IB Theory of Knowledge (IB TOK) book - which is the basis of the program.
Susan Harris April 23, 2014 at 10:12 pm
Tamara, what social studies standards are you talking about? The Common Core only covers standardsRead More in literacy and math. There are no CC standards for science or history. Are you talking about state standards?

Netflix is hands down the best deal going, and it has been a bargain for YEARS. I guess theRead More nonsensical whiners who complain about a long-delayed, $2 a MONTH increase are worried it will cost them a (partial) SINGLE LATTE. Utterly ridiculous.

TO MICHAEL BRENNICK: Leftist, Democra... WHAT? You think Comcast is part of the so-calledRead More "liberal" media (which, by the way, doesn't even exist)? Are you freakin' KIDDIN' me? [shakes head in disbelief] Wow. The FOX NEWS CHANNEL should be held criminally liable for what it has done to your brain.

FOR THOSE WHO LIKE AMAZON PRIME OVER NETFLIX: Here's an interesting article from today (23 Apr 2014)Read More about how Amazon Prime just got HBO to stream at least some of its older content, plus "HBO GO," to Amazon's new Fire TV box, thereby making NetFlix upset because NetFlix (nor any other streaming service, including HULU) has never been able to get any HBO content; and so Amazon has scored a real coup! Comcast mafia blocks every Phillies game on Direct tv and I pay extra for the MLB package. Take aRead More trip to Camden Yards. It's a beautiful stadium with charming people, Hon! If it was worth doing private business would be installing them, when government installs thingsRead More like this it is a feel good thing that a select few will use and will cost the taxpayers more then the end user. The turnpike is already operating in the RED and once again they waste more money they do not have. If private business operates this way they quickly go belly up, time to tell the goverment to go belly up, they are already too far in the RED and I'm sick of hearing them waste more of my money!!!

Sorry, Autistic boy, but there are a multitude of crimes here. These so called 'friends' abused youRead More terribly ~ called 'bullying', & that alone cannot be tolerated. Then, there is animal cruelty involved, another terrible crime, plus, harassment of all kinds, leudness, & who knows what else. These 'friends' need to be charged & made aware of the seriousness of their deeds, punished accordingly & helped through proper mental councelling.
