Gladwyne Civic Honors Firefighters

Three Gladwyne firefighters were recognized by the civic association on Tuesday night.

Three firefighters who were honored by the Gladwyne Civic Association at its monthly meeting Tuesday night.

Assistant Chiefs Michael Schwarz, Chip McLean and John Remillard received awards. Remillard was unable to attend due to his participation in the National Fire Academy this week, so Chief Blaine Leis accepted the award on his behalf.

Schwarz detailed the events of that night for the Gladwyne Civic before the three were given awards in the shape of Maltese crosses—which civic President Karen Aydt explained symbolizes protection and means the firefighter would lay down his life for you.

Schwarz, McLean and Remillard also and from Whitemarsh Township, where the rescues occurred.

Tom Zug, who served as the president of the Gladwyne Fire Co. for 15 years before retiring in January, told civic members that their "recognition is a tremendous help."
