Whiz Kid: Baldwin Humanitarian Emilie Wache

This week's Whiz Kid: Emilie Wache

- School: junior; Emilie lives in Maple Glen

- Accomplishment: Emilie established at Baldwin a club chapter of Free The Children, an organization which aims to free children from poverty and exploitation through education so they can help change their own communities. Emilie also applied for and was awarded a $2,125 Fernley Fund grant from St. Thomas' Church in Whitemarsh to support the club's efforts. Once Baldwin raises about $8,500, students will travel to Ecuador to help build a school.

- Key to awesomeness: As a member of Baldwin's Model United Nations club, Emilie was inspired by Free The Children co-founder Craig Keilburger's presentation at a Model UN conference at Georgetown.

Emilie petitioned the student senate at Baldwin's Upper School to start a chapter there, and to do that she needed signatures to show interest in the club.

"My friends all joined the club," Emilie said. "It was the most signatures the senate had ever had. There are a lot of members and a lot of great underclassmen."

In addition to her organization of and involvement in Free The Children and Model United Nations, Emilie also participates in Girls Learn International, Florilège (Baldwin's French literary magazine), Lamplighters (Baldwin's student tour group leaders) and debate team.

Emilie also enjoys tennis, golf and sailing.

"I'm really organized and on top of things," Emilie said. "And the faculty at Baldwin has been super helpful."

Emilie keeps track of her schedule using an agenda book.

"If you manage your time, you can really thrive."
