Harriton and Philabundance Hold Food Drive

Food will be collected through March 7.

Harriton High School is holding a food drive competition through March 8 to collect food for Philabundance, which is a hunger relief organization for the Delaware Valley.

The drive started March 1, and food will be collected through Monday, March 7, according to a Harriton HSA e-mail. There will be separate bins for each grade in which to place food items, and whichever grade donates the most food wins the competition. On March 8, students will pack all collected food into boxes so Philabundance can collect the food for distribution.

The foods that are being requested include: canned tuna, macaroni and cheese, canned beef stew, canned vegetables, canned chili, breakfast cereals, canned pasta, canned ravioli, hot cereal and creamy peanut butter.

Harriton also asks that food in glass containers and bottles not be donated.

Sophomores were winning the competition Tuesday with 118 items, but seniors are now winning the competition with a total of 318 items, according to e-mails from the Harriton HSA.

“Can we really let the seniors win another breakfast?” it says in a Harriton HSA e-mail sent Wednesday.
