Township Approves Four-Way Stop at New Shipley School Entrance

Parking availability is being reduced on Merion Avenue as a result.

As a intersection at the  changes from three-way to four-way, it will also become a four-way stop, the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners decided Wednesday night.

A new entrance to the school from Merion Avenue lines up with Wyndon Avenue on the other side of the street. What was a curved T-intersection with only Wyndon Avenue drivers stopping will now have drivers traveling, and stopping, in all four directions.

To help accommodate the expected backup of northbound Merion Avenue drivers intending to turn right into Shipley, the board also eliminated parking on the east side of Merion 150 feet before the intersection, rather than the current 50 feet.

Parking is already prohibited on the length of the west side of Merion Avenue.

The board did not specify a timeline for the renovation of the intersection.
