River Road Mosquito Spraying Scheduled for Wednesday Night

The Montgomery County Health Department operation runs from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Anti-mosquito pesticide is scheduled to be sprayed Wednesday night on River Road in Gladwyne along the Schuylkill River to reduce the risk of West Nile virus spreading.

The Montgomery County Health Department said the spraying will take place at ground level between 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. If it rains, the operation will be postponed to Wednesday, Sept. 7. (The National Weather Service forecast calls for no rain Wednesday night.)

River Road reopened to traffic Monday after being closed for debris and flooding in the wake of Hurricane Irene.

The pesticide will be sprayed at a concentration of 1.5 fluid ounces per acre, just as it was at two Penn Valley locations .

The EPA website on mosquitoes describes the pesticides used. Township residents who see standing water likely to have mosquitoes breeding may call the health department at 610-278-5117.
