Parking Meters, Permits Lead Wednesday Night's Board of Commissioners Agenda

Lower Merion's Police and Finance committees meet Wednesday evening.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners is conducting Police Committee and Finance Committee business, including an administration proposal to sell reusable "Smart Cards" for paying the .

Parking Services Director Tom Pintande recommended in a June 29 memo to Township Manager Doug Cleland that the township sell $5 cards on which residents could store up to $100 in their own parking-meter accounts. The board would need to approve an ordinance amendment.

During the Police Committee sesssion, the board also will consider whether to sell parking permits in shorter time increments than six months and whether to prohibit eastbound Montgomery Avenue drivers from turning right on red lights at Penn Road.

Commissioners could award three contracts during the Finance Committee session:

  • Mechanicsburg contractor Mr. Rehab outbid five competitors with an offer to reinforce deteriorated sewer pipes for $314,655.75. The township had budgeted $330,000 for the job.
  • Brendan Stanton Inc. of Montgomeryville submitted the low bid of $102,000 to replace a pump station's emergency generator, beating nine competitors. Township budget for the project: $115,000.
  • Swerp Inc. of Lafayette Hill bid $49,835 to restore several manhole covers in the township, a job the township had budgeted $55,000 to do. Three other companies also sought the contract.
