'Operation Safe Holiday’ To Run Thanksgiving Through New Year’s

The holidays are a peak time for traffic crashes, according to a Lower Merion Township news release.

The state and the Lower Merion Police Department, along with 600 other police forces, will be joining in efforts to keep motorists safe this holiday season.

The program includes DUI checkpoints and roving patrols, and will also emphasize seat belt use, according to a township news release.

“Drivers who are stopped and ticketed for a traffic violation like speeding, a second seat belt ticket will be written, with no exceptions,” the release states.

Drivers should use seat belts, follow the speed limit and avoid aggressive driving behaviors and distractions, like talking on the cell phone, according to the release.
