Ludington Library Fundraiser to Include Alcohol

Staff anticipates a reopening date of Sept. 8.

Lower Merion commissioners, in an early Thursday morning library committee meeting, voted to recommend to the full Board of Commissioners that alcohol be served at a reception for large campaign donors.

The library committee meeting immediately followed a more than six-hour discussion before the .

Gregg Adelman, president of Ludington Library, requested permission to serve alcohol at a donor reception "a week or so prior to the grand opening," which is expected to coincide with this year's Bryn Mawr 100 celebration on Sept. 8.

"I think this is a superb idea," said Commissioner Scott Zelov. "Given the late hour, I believe we should vote."

Commissioner George Manos expressed concern about the legal precedent this would set of allowing alcohol to be served in township buildings.

The library committee voted 9-4 to recommend to the full Board of Commissioners that alcohol be allowed at the reception.
