Lower Merion Township Declares Snow Emergency

Snow is forecast to continue through this evening and into Wednesday with accumulations between 8 to12 inches.  The declaration alerts residents not to park in cul-de-sacs and on emergency snow routes.  Residents are reminded to park on the even sides of the street in 2014.

Information about Library hours and other Township service operations will be provided in a separate notification. 

The latest information from the National Weather Service for southeastern Pennsylvania:

·      Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. EST Wednesday.

·      Snow accumulations: 8 to 12 inches.

·      Timing: Snow will fall at rates of around an inch per hour for the duration of the afternoon. The axis of heaviest snow will shift into New Jersey and Delaware during the evening.

·      Impacts: Travel will be hazardous due to snow covered roads and periods of very low visibility. Areas of blowing and drifting snow will develop especially this evening and tonight. The afternoon and evening rush hour will be significantly impacted. The morning commute on Wednesday will be affected by drifting snow.

·      Winds: North 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 30 mph.

·      Temperatures: falling through the 20s into the teens. Wind Chill, as low as 10 below.
