Lower Merion Committee Recommends Firing Police Officer

Commissioners discussed the issue in executive session.

The Lower Merion Board of Commissioners Police Committee unanimously recommended Wednesday night that the full board approve the firing of an unidentified township police officer.

The committee meeting began nearly 40 minutes after its scheduled 6 p.m. start because the commissioners were in executive session discussing the personnel issue with Lower Merion Police Superintendent Michael McGrath.

Lower Merion Commissioners Liz Rogan, Paul McElhaney, Rick Churchill, Brian Gordon, Scott Zelov, George Manos and Brian McGuire were present for the vote.

After the committee meeting, McGrath declined to identify the officer or the grounds for termination to a Patch reporter, citing township personnel policy.

However, McGrath confirmed the officer who was fired was not the same .
