Briggs Opens Essay Contest to Lower Merion 5th Graders

State Rep. Tim Briggs (D-Montgomery) has kicked off his third annual "There Ought to be a Law" essay contest, which is open to his fifth grade constituents. 

Briggs visited students to introduce the contest and to talk about how a bill becomes a law, according to a press release. The contest is open to all fifth graders in Lower Merion Township, West Conshohocken, Upper Merion Township and Bridgeport.

“It was great to see how excited the kids were to get started,” Briggs said in the release. “This year we’re asking students to think of a law that would make their school, community or state a better place and to write a persuasive essay on the topic.”

Students who did not receive an essay form in school can download one here. Entries are due Jan. 30, and the winner will be announced the week of Feb. 27.

The winner, along with his or her family, will be invited to visit the state Capitol in Harrisburg and have lunch with Briggs.
