Police Blotter: Four Charged with Public Drunkenness, Another Charged with Assault

Four people in Bryn Mawr were charged with public drunkenness this past week, and a Bryn Mawr resident was charged with assault and harassment in connection with an incident in Wynnewood, according to police reports released Jan. 24.

Public drunkenness: Police on patrol at 2:11 a.m. Jan. 19 said they observed a man staggering across Lancaster Avenue at the intersection with North Warner Avenue in Bryn Mawr. Police said Michael Berkery, 21, of East Williston, N.Y., had blood smeared on his face, that he was unable to say anything and was intoxicated to a degree that he was a danger to himself and to others. Berkery was arrested, charged with public drunkenness and released in the morning.

Simple assault: Police arrested Scott Cohen, 20, of the 600 block of Dayton Road in Bryn Mawr, at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 19 and charged him with simple assault and harassment. Police said Cohen assaulted his ex-girlfriend on the 300 block of Kent Road in Wynnewood. After Cohen was advised to leave, he engaged in a physical confrontation with the woman, police said. Cohen posted 10 percent of $25,000 bail and was taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, police said.

Public drunkenness: Cathleen Moynihan, 50, of the 800 block of West Montgomery Avenue in Bryn Mawr, was arrested at 6:20 p.m. Jan. 21, police said. Police responded to the apartment complex where Moynihan lived after she had been evicted, police said, adding she was intoxicated to a degree she was a danger to herself and to others. Moynihan was released Jan. 22 and was cited with public drunkenness.

Public drunkenness: Police responded to the 800 block of West Montgomery Avenue in Bryn Mawr at 1:22 a.m. after police received a call from a cab driver saying there was a man sleeping in a snow pile in a parking lot at the Shipley School. Police said the man was Brendan Burke, 18, and that he didn’t make any sense and was intoxicated to a point he was a danger to himself and to others. Burke did not want medical help, and he was arrested and charged with public drunkenness, underage drinking and carrying two false IDs, police said.

Public drunkenness: Anthony Pollitt, 40, of the unit block of Prospect Avenue in Bryn Mawr, was arrested at 2:20 a.m. Jan. 23 and was charged with public drunkenness, police said. Police said Pollitt was first observed on the 1000 block of West Lancaster Avenue talking with two Villanova students who said they had never seen him before. Police said Pollitt had a blood-alcohol content of .25 and was charged with public drunkenness.
