Pedestrian Struck, Killed in Bryn Mawr

A 23-year-old Villanova alumna died late Saturday night.

A 23-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle late Saturday night crossing Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr, according to Lower Merion police.

The woman, Lauryn Ossola, of Southington, CT, was crossing from the north side of Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr near Thomas Avenue at 11:19 p.m. Saturday, according to police. Ossola was a graduate. 

Philly.com reports that her death cast a cloud over homecoming weekend.

Ossola was hit by a 2008 silver Jeep Liberty traveling eastbound on Lancaster Avenue, police report. Ossola suffered serious head trauma and was transported by Narberth Ambulance to . She was pronounced dead at 11:52 p.m.

Another person was crossing the street at the time and was not struck, police said. Neither pedestrian was walking in a crosswalk.

The driver of the Jeep Liberty was a 19-year-old Villanova student, police said. No charges have been filed. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Lower Merion Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
