Dog Kennel in Gladwyne Ransacked

Read about this curious case of theft.

A building inside a gated home property was ransacked earlier this week, and the only thing found missing was a $5 florescent light bulb, Lower Merion police said at a Monday briefing.

On Feb. 21 at 11:30 p.m., a home alarm system on the 1200 block of Country Club Road in Gladwyne was activated to indicate that a vehicle was entering the driveway. The homeowner saw a large silver sedan park near his detached dog kennel, but assumed the man was a contractor and went back to bed, he told police.

At 1 a.m. that night, the homeowner was again woken by his alarm system, which now indicated the vehicle was trying to leave the property. The homeowner went down to talk with the driver, whom he described to police as a disheveled white male in his 30s or 40s, 5’10 with a stocky build and ear-length hair, possibly brown, according to the report.

The homeowner asked the man his name, and the man gave two different answers. The homeowner then assisted the man in leaving the property, according to the report.

The next morning, on Feb. 22, the homeowner was walking his dogs on the property and noticed the kennel’s door standing open, the room was in disarray and appeared to have been ransacked, police said.

The woman in charge of the facility said the building was never kept that way. After searching the property, she told police that a two-foot florescent light bulb was missing. The total loss is $5, according to the report.

Anyone entering at that hour is definitely suspicious behavior. The homeowner was negligent in not calling police at that hour. He deserved it. He was very lucky this time. He was stupid for confronting the driver. He could have been killed.
