Burglars Target Gladwyne, Bryn Mawr, Villanova Homes

One would-be victim yelled out to confront a prowler, police say.

Homes in Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne and Villanova last week were the sites of burglaries or attempted burglaries, Lower Merion police said Monday.

  • A resident of Prospect Hill Road's 1300 block in Villanova was home about 8 p.m. Tuesday when he heard his dog bark and heard someone pounding on his door. The resident looked out the window and saw a large man at the door. When he yelled to ask what the man was doing, the man fled. Police later found a nine- to 10-inch crack on the door frame that suggested the man was trying to break down the door.
  • Some jewelry and a small amount of cash was taken from Wednesday evening from a home on the 900 block of Stony Lane in Gladwyne, police said. Between 7:50 and 9:45 p.m., the master bedroom was ransacked and the front door left ajar.
  • A resident of the 600 block of Pembroke Road reported on Friday that he found damage to an exterior window and pry marks at its base. Police do not believe anyone was able to break in to the house.

Burglars also targeted Bala Cynwyd and Penn Valley homes last week, as well as a Merion Station home.
