$500,000 in Jewelry and Handbags Stolen from Villanova Home

The stolen items include a wedding band and engagement ring valued at $80,000 and two $15,000 handbags.

Nearly $500,000 in jewelry and handbags were stolen from a Villanova home on March 23, Lower Merion police said at a Monday briefing.

The burglary occurred Saturday evening on the 700 block of Canterbury Lane in Villanova between 6:30 and 9:50 p.m., at which point the homeowners returned to find their front door unlocked and a rear kitchen sliding glass door removed, police said.

Most rooms in the house were ransacked. According to the report, some of the items taken include:

  • A black Hermes Birkin handbag worth $15,000
  • A red Hermes Birkin handbag worth $15,000
  • A Gucci evening bag worth $4,000
  • A wedding band and engagement ring valued at $80,000
  • Diamond earrings worth $10,000
  • A woman’s Cartier watch worth $25,000

The total loss is estimated at $495,000, police said.  Police searched the house and the surrounding area with a police dog. The investigation is ongoing.
