5 Things to Know This Week: Sept. 17-23

A heads up for those who live or work in Bryn Mawr, Gladwyne, Villanova and Rosemont.

1. Rosemont College is asking Lower Merion Township for permission to convert an athletic field into a softball field, separate multi-use field and locker room/concession building. The Zoning Hearing Board is scheduled to hear the application at Thursday's 6 p.m. meeting.

2. The Bryn Mawr Civic Association meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday, and according to Lower Merion Commissioner Scott Zelov, the police chiefs of both Lower Merion and Radnor are scheduled to attend.

3. Gladwyne Fire Company is using its website to spread the word about a fund set up for slain Plymouth Township Police Officer Brad Fox's family. Donations can be sent to:

4. At Wednesday night's Police Committee meeting of the Lower Merion Board of Commissioners, Police Superintendent Michael McGrath will address an unspecified personnel matter and also call for the approval of probationary police officer jobs to bolster the force.

5. The Lower Merion School District is closed Monday and Tuesday for the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah.
