Suited To A Tee

It was the Hornets vs. the Blackhawks, a titan tee-ball contest played on the green fields of Gladwyne Elementary. It's true: nothing connects the generations like America's pastime.

It’s spring, Little League is back, and I couldn’t be happier. With two grandnephews firmly committed to this quintessentially American pastime, I get to enjoy watching them play a sport that pulls me back to my youth – no mean feat at this point.

And that’s what I was doing last Saturday afternoon, as Quintin and his fellow Hornets took on the Blackhawks for a spirited tee-ball game on the green fields of . I have no idea what the final score was, but at this age, that doesn’t seem to be a consuming issue. It was a beautiful day, there were some solid hits, some amusing fielding, and bonus – no injuries.

Sometimes I go just to sit and watch and cheer, but this was the first outing of the season, so I decided to bring my camcorder. Young kids today seem largely immune (or maybe it’s oblivious) to adults recording their efforts, which means I got some charming footage that had me smiling all through the editing process.

I also took some still photos which I posted on my website, along with a link to the short video. You can click here to go directly to that page. Or, if you prefer, you can click here to go right to the video. Remember to choose high-def and keep the audio up for maximum enjoyment.

Thomas Ward, my older grandnephew, is playing AAA ball, and I plan to be on hand to cheer for the Rockies as they take on the Rangers, Padres, Nationals, et al. There’s also a good chance I’ll be recording those outings for posterity, so continue to watch this space!
