Evensong for Lent

The adult choirs of Church of the Redeemer will sing Evensong on Sunday, February 17 at 4:00 pm. Occurring on the First Sunday in Lent, the featured musical offerings will be Glouceter Service by Herbert Howells and Bleib bei uns by J. Rheinberger. The music will be conducted by Dr. Michael Diorio, Organist and Director of Music.

This Evensong is in particular observance of the beginning of Lent—a special season in the Church calendar characterized by self-examination, prayer and preparation leading to the Passion and ultimately the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Day.

The order of worship for Evensong is taken from the church service liturgy of Evening Prayer. It is used in many Episcopal and Anglican Churches and is celebrated in the late afternoon or evening. It is commonly known as Evensong because the service is rendered chorally (that is, when most of the service is sung).
