Blood Wedding

With a live performance by Opera Philadelphia

(NR) Spain – 1 hr 12 min – In Spanish with English subtitles
1981 · d. Carlos Saura

Director Carlos Saura creates a story within a story by capturing on film a company of dancers as they dress and rehearse their performance of Blood Wedding, the tragic but captivating story of a woman torn between love and duty. Part of his “Flamenco Trilogy,” this theatrical film blends ballet with flamenco dancing to embody the language and story of dance.

Shown in conjunction with Opera Philadelphia’s production of the flamenco-themed opera Ainadamar, from Argentinian composer Osvaldo Golijov, members of the company will perform a selection from the opera prior to the screening.
