Viewfinder: A Tricentennial Celebration

The 300-year-old Harriton House will have a fair on Sept. 24.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, Bryn Mawr will will celebrate the fact that 19 of its businesses and institutions are . The oldest of them all is , dating back to 1704. Today Harriton House is operated by the nonprofit Harriton Association.

On Sept. 24, Harriton House will hold its annual Harriton Plantation Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It promises to be an exciting event with interests for all ages. The Harriton House website describes the day's activities this way: "featuring crafts, antiques, sheep herding, pony rides, house tours, games, muskets and soldiers, blacksmiths, stone carvers, cabinetmakers, spinners, weavers, Bluegrass music and Colonial songs, Hawks (a new addition!), and much more. There are also the Harriton Attic Treasures Booth, which is the best flea market on the Main Line, the Harriton Farm stand featuring flowers and organic produce from the Harriton garden, and a Silent Auction, all of which help to assure Harriton's continued operation as an historic site."

During the past year I have featured some Harriton House activities in Viewfinder. This week's gallery revisits some of those events and the house tour. You simply will not find anyplace in the region that compares with Harriton House in history and interesting activity. To learn more about Harriton House visit its website at harritonhouse.org
