NWS Predicts Weekend Rain, Snow

There is a 90 percent chance of precipitation overnight Friday, according to the NWS.

After light snow midweek, a little more snow is anticipated in the Philadelphia area this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

There is a 90 percent chance of rain and snow Friday night, which will likely turn into all snow after 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the NWS forecast. Less than an inch of snow is predicted overnight.

Snow is also expected Saturday before 1 p.m., according to the NWS. Precipitation could turn to rain for the following three hours before changing back into snow around 4 p.m. NWS predicts the chance of precipitation on Saturday to be about 70 percent, with new snowfall totals of less than one inch.

There is a slight chance of snow Saturday night, according to the forecast, with new accumulation totals of less than half an inch possible.

Lower Merion crews are planning on applying salt and calcium to roadways beginning about 7 a.m. Saturday before freezing temperatures move in, according to an email forwarded to residents by township commissioner Jenny Brown. Crews will also begin salting sidewalks at township buildings around the same time. That plan could change if freezing temperatures set in sooner.

Brown reminded township residents to call the Lower Merion police non-emergency line at 610-649-1000 if they encounter safety issues or hazardous road conditions that should be addressed. Police will then go look and determine whether to send township crews, Brown wrote.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook is in effect, warning of potentially slippery roads through Sunday, states the NWS.
