NWS Issues Tornado Watch for Montgomery County

The watch is in effect until 8 p.m.

A tornado watch has been issued for Montgomery and surrounding counties until 8 p.m. Wednesday, the National Weather Service (NWS) announced Wednesday afternoon.

With a hot and humid air mass that is covering the region, it is possible that strong thunderstorms could develop, along with a tornado, the NWS stated.

“These storms are expected to increase in coverage and intensity as they move eastward into the Poconos and southeast Pennsylvania … Some of these storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts … large hail and possibly a tornado as they develop and intensify,” the NWS warned.

The tornado watch, including the excessive heat warning where temperatures are expected to be as high as 92 degrees for Wednesday, is in effect until 8 p.m., Wednesday, the NWS stated.

The following Pennsylvanian counties that have been issued a tornado watch alert are:

  • Berks
  • Bucks
  • Carbon
  • Chester
  • Delaware
  • Lehigh
  • Monroe
  • Montgomery
  • Northampton
  • Philadelphia

There is also an in effect until 8 p.m., the NWS reports.

The service advises residents to:

  • Drink plenty of fluids;
  • Stay in an air-conditioned room;
  • Stay out of the sun; and
  • Check up on relatives and neighbors.

There is a 60 percent change of showers and thunderstorms in Bryn Mawr between 5 and 7 p.m., according to an NWS forecast. Hail and heavy winds could accompany some of those storms, the forecast states.
