Multi-Vehicle Accident on I-76E Spills Fuel, Closes Lanes

The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m., according to PennDOT.

(Update 4:03 p.m.: I-76 E has reopened again at I-476.)

(Update 2:40 p.m.: Crews have gotten the fallen truck upright and maneuvered it away from the spill site, PennDOT traffic camera footage showed. Cleanup work continues, and no traffic has been allowed through yet.)

A multi-vehicle accident about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on I-76/Schuylkill Expressway eastbound near Gladwyne closed both lanes of eastbound traffic and one lane of westbound traffic, according to PennDOT.

Both westbound lanes were open by about 1 p.m.

The crash caused about 180 gallons of fuel to be spilled and motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

An alternate eastbound route, Conshohocken State Road, was closed at Mill Creek Road because of construction, TotalTraffic.com reported. Conshohocken State Road (Route 23) was reported reopened about 1 p.m.
