  • When/Where: 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, on Germantown Ave. between Sedgwick Street and Mt. Airy Avenue in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia.
  • Why Go: Enjoy tostadas, Caribbean fried fish, gourmet cupcakes and more at this Philadelphia neighborhood's food festival on Thursday night. Local restaurants, food vendors and food trucks will line Germantown Ave. Most items are less than $5, so you can sample a number of different cuisines for pretty cheap.

First Friday Main Line: "Magic on the Main Line"

  • When/Where: 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5
  • Why Go: First Friday makes its return this Friday with a focus on photography captured on the Main Line. "Magic on the Main Line" also features a number of musical acts, including The Lemongrass Blues Ziller, Wayne Harvey & Square Wheels and acoustic musician Lee Allen.   • Cost: Free

Various Eggs w/ Chris Sannino at MilkBoy

  • When/Where: 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 5 at MilkBoy in Bryn Mawr
  • Why Go: Enjoy some free folk rock from Various Eggs and Chris Sannino on Friday night. Hey, after the show, you could even hit the 9:15 p.m. showing of Beginners at Bryn Mawr Film Institute (it premieres on Friday).
  • Cost: Free

Beats Walkin' at Bryn Mawr Twilight Concerts

  • When/Where: 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Bryn Mawr Gazebo, 9 S. Bryn Mawr Ave.
  • Why Go: Beats Walkin' is a band that plays Texas Swing: "an eclectic blend of jazz, swing, country, bluegrass, blues and boogie-woogie that'll have you smiling so wide your cheeks will hurt," the concert website states. And it's the last show of the concert series this year.
  • Cost: Donation is $10 per person, children ages 16 and younger are free.

Where/When:  on days where the temperature tops 90 degrees, all hours except Monday-Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The closest location is 34 West Lancaster Ave., Ardmore.
Why Go: Take your workout indoors this week to escape the heat. Philadelphia Sports Clubs citywide will open their doors to the public for free workouts every time the thermometer hits 90 degrees through August. Redeem by referencing the “heat wave promotion” at the front desk of any PSC club. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and will need to show photo ID.
