Get Out: Holiday Fun, Theater and More

What's going on in the Bryn Mawr-Gladwyne Patch area this weekend.

It's a weekend full of holiday fun in Bryn Mawr and the surrounding area. Check out our best bets for the activities to hit this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including some local holiday craft sales, Christmas movies, Santa appearances and more.

First Friday Main Line

  • When/Where: Friday, Dec. 2 from 6 to 10 p.m. in Ardmore and Bryn Mawr. See the website for a full list of times and locations.
  • Why Go: It's a night of art, music, holiday festivities this Friday night in Ardmore (and Bryn Mawr) for First Friday Main Line. Check out the tunes at Firinji, where they'll be playing some jazz renditions of holiday favorites, or a performance by Teen Hip Hop of Indigo Vibes at Case Gallery. Shop locally at the Main Line Art Center's Holiday Fine Craft Sale, or Past*Present*Future, where everything will be 10 percent off for First Friday shoppers on Friday night. Santa will also be making an appearance in Ardmore. in Bryn Mawr will host its first First Friday After Party featuring artwork, raffles, treats and giveaways. Check out all the festivities here.

Tree Lighting and Santa's Arrival in Bryn Mawr

  • When/Where: Friday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. at gazebo next to
  • Why Go: Get into the holiday spirit this weekend with a tree lighting, carolers and Santa's arrival in Bryn Mawr. The lighting of Bryn Mawr's Christmas tree takes place at the gazebo next to the Ludington Library at 7 p.m. Friday. At 7:30 p.m., Santa will arrive on a truck. Beforehand, Carolers and 's Middle School Singers will be caroling throughout Bryn Mawr from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

David Greenspan: The Myopia

  • When/Where: Friday and Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m., at 's Goodhart Hall
  • Why Go: "Using only a chair and a stage curtain, Greenspan brings 22 characters to life including President Warren G. Harding; Febus, who has attempted to write a musical about Harding for most of his life; Koreen, who was hidden away from the world in a gigantic tower (a la Rapunzel) by her controlling mother, Yetti; Febus’s son Barclay, and others. Anchored by the Raconteur, the audience is guided through scenes at a frenetic pace and is hurtled from place to place: a fairy-tale landscape, the smoky back rooms of a hotel in Chicago in 1920, and beyond."
  • Cost:  $20 general admission, $18 for seniors, $10 for students with ID, and $5 for children under 12.

  • When/Where: Friday, Dec. 2 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Chestnutwold Elementary School, 630 Loraine St., Ardmore
  • Why Go: Shop (really) local for holiday gifts this weekend at the 6th annual Chestnutwold Holiday Gift and Craft Show. The event features more than 40 local artists, craftspeople and vendors. The wares for sale include jewelry, clothing, glass, baked goods, pottery, candles, cards, handmade bags, ornaments and more. Main Line Art center's Arts Alive program will visit from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, at which kids will get to make a take-home craft.
  • Cost: Free admission, cost of items varies

White Christmas Matinee at Bryn Mawr Film

  • When/Where: 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 at
  • Why Go: Enjoy a Christmas classic at Bryn Mawr Film. Santa will be right across the street at on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, so say hi to Santa before heading over to the film for a double dose of Christmas cheer. 
  • Cost: $5 adults, $4 kids
