What to Read for St. Patrick's Day

The owner of the Title Page in Rosemont believes the Irish have a gift for gab—and great literature.

St. Patrick's Day is Sunday, March 17. Green bagels aside, how else might you celebrate the holiday?

Beverley Potter, owner of the Title Page book store in Rosemont, said there are many ways to enjoy Ireland's rich literary history.

The country's best-known writer, she said, is James Joyce. His books Dubliners and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man are Ireland-centered works.

Also worthwhile is the poetry of W.B. Yeats, she said.

For more contemporary works, check out playwright and poet Seamus Heaney, who occasionally come to the area to read at local colleges. Paul Muldoon is also a modern-day poet who was born in Northern Ireland.
