It's easy to drive by Peppers Café, a small spot in the back corner of 2528 Haverford Road. But once you visit, the cute café serving Mediterranean-style fare may become a destination.

At Peppers Café and Catering the food is "made before your eyes," said owner Kate Rapine. "Everything's fresh because we're so small." About six people can fit eating at the counter inside and during some seasons about 20 people can fit on an outdoor deck. Some of the most popular items on the menu are the Tradition Caesar Salad, Chicken Caesar Wrap and the Penne with Chicken and Tomatoes in a Pink Sauce, Rapine said.

Peppers also offers a lot of vegetarian options, she said, including Vegetarian Pita, Mixed Greens with Mozzarella and Tomato and no-meat pasta choices.

The café gets a lot of regular customers—Rapine said she knows about 70 percent of customers by name. And it's a diverse group of customers, she said. "We get our suits next to our landscapers."

Rapine runs specials every day, including Gazpacho cold soup in the summer and hot soups in the winter.

Peppers is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. Catering is also available.
