New App Offers Discounts, Rewards at Bryn Mawr Eateries

Read what businesses are offering discounts with the free app.

Woblet, a new, free app that provides discounts and reward programs for local eateries, has come to the Main Line.

The company is currently working with a dozen businesses but is bringing more into the program. Local businesses that give Woblet discounts include Vge Cafe, The Grog, Main Line Bistro and Yo Creations.

You can download the app for free from the Woblet website or order a user card in lieu of or to use with the smart phone app.

"We want people to use it and really benefit from it," said John Strawbridge, Regional Director of Woblet. The company's CEO Daniel Waltzer is from Villanova.

How it works

After you download the app, when you visit one of the participating businesses you place your phone on a little blue box and tell the cashier that you are using Woblet. Some businesses keep their machine behind the counter. (Strawbridge says if you are uncomfortable giving someone your phone, order the free Woblet card). You "spin" and it determines the discount you will receive.

Purchases will also go towards a rewards program; each business determines what consumers can get with reward points.

The app aims to help expose small businesses and incentivize customers to return. "Our team is doing the marketing, trying to drive traffic into restaurants. Merchants pay for the service only when they get hits," Strawbridge said.

While it is marketed to college students, anyone can use Woblet.
