MilkBoy in Ardmore Gets Sold

But while the sale marks the end of an era, the 2 E. Lancaster Avenue space will continue as a coffee house.

MilkBoy co-owner Jaime Lokoff confirmed to Patch on Thursday that he and partner Tommy Joyner have sold the Ardmore coffee house, a sale that will be finalized on August 1.

"It was a hard decision to come to," Lokoff said. "We're very protective of the place. It's our baby."

Lokoff explained that he and Joyner decided to sell so they could focus more of their efforts and energies on MilkBoy Philly—their 1100 Chestnut Street restaurant, bar, cafe and live music venue—and MilkBoy's increasingly busy recording studio. The pair sold MilkBoy's Bryn Mawr location in March of 2012.

But while the name will change, Lokoff said fans of the 2 East Lancaster Avenue cafe will be glad to know little else will. The outgoing owner said that, through a combination of intention and luck, he found buyers that plan to run the shop, effectively, as it is.

"We were looking for somebody who could come right in and take it over. That was important to us" said Lokoff, adding that the fact that MilkBoy is a "ready made business" made it easy to find such a buyer.

Eventually, though, Lokoff conceded that the new owners will "put their own signature" on the cafe.

While he said he hasn't planned any event to mark the end of MilkBoy in the Main Line, Lokoff said he'll remember his time at the coffee house, and in Ardmore, fondly.

"This is a great, great place. We went through a lot there—a flood, a recession. We've got a lot of great memories."

Time to make more.
