Meet the Owner: Pun's Toy Shop

Joe Berardoni Sr. gives an update about his kidney transplant last year.

Now, almost one year later, Joe Sr. reports that he and his son are both doing well. In fact, "I don't think I've been this healthy in 10 years," he said. This was his second kidney transplant.

In September, Pun's Toy Shop will celebrate 30 years in business. Berardoni has owned the Bryn Mawr shop for 17 of those years; he's been in the toy business for 32 years.

Berardoni told Bryn Mawr Patch that his store's clients are loyal, and that he's seeing a trend of shopping turning to little, locally-owned stores.

Although Pun's is not a huge space, they cram in more toys than you can imagine. What they offer is personalized customer service, unique products and the ability to make suggestions to customers, he said.

In general, Berardoni said arts and crafts are popular with young girls while boys tend to go towards the building toys. See a photo gallery of some of Pun's popular items.

"We feel the hit taken by the economy, but we're still here," he said. "We're doing OK, and from what I hear in the industry, that's pretty remarkable."

Pun's is on Facebook and Twitter.
