Maleka Enjoying New Bryn Mawr Location

The fine linens and home decor store was in Suburban Square for 24 years.

After 24 years of business in Ardmore’s Suburban Square, ’s owners are enjoying their new Bryn Mawr location.

“A lot of people think we closed, but we’re still here,” said Art Howard, who owns the shop with his wife Louise.

Maleka relocated in January to the Bryn Mawr location, which is about 30 percent larger than its old Ardmore shop, Howard said. Maleka, a home furnishing store, replaced  at 835 W. Lancaster Ave., which also offered home décor and linens.

Maleka gets its name from the first two letters of Art’s and Louise’s three children’s names: Mark, Leslie and Kate.

With Maleka’s larger location, they have been able to add several offerings they previously did not have room for. For example, they were able to triple the size of its baby department, with clothing for newborn babies to 2 years old.

They also offer Dash & Albert rugs, Jamie Young designer lamps, art glass, beveled glass mirrors, decorative throws and high-end bathroom accessories, Howard said.

Howard said many of the former Suburban Square store’s regulars have now started coming to the Bryn Mawr store.

“Their reaction to this space has been phenomenal,” he said. “The products display better.”

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
