Longtime Gladwyne Super Fresh Clerk Retires

Jim Myers has worked at the supermarket for 31 years.

Jim Myers, an employee at the Gladwyne Super Fresh for 31 years, is working his last shift on Thursday evening.

After 53 years with the company, including when it was A & P until 1982, Myers is retiring.

After so many years working Myers said he wants to take time to do other things, like spend time with his wife Marie, travel and do stuff around the house.

He said he has formed great relationships with coworkers and longtime customers. "I've seen kids grow up, get married and come in with their kids," Myers told Bryn Mawr-Gladwyne Patch Thursday, right before his 4 p.m. shift started.

The Roxborough resident also worked in stores in Llanerch and on Baltimore Pike in Lansdowne. He has been one of Gladwyne Superfresh's shop steward union representatives for 30 years.

Myers said he has enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life in the store, including famous athletes and coaches like Andy Reid and Larry Brown. "They're all regular people," he said.

He said he did not tell many customers that Thursday is his last day on the job—he said he thought he could leave in a low-key way.
