The Ithan Market will soon be selling its famous chicken pot pie to the masses.

The Villanova shop has just produced 1,000 lbs. of its chicken pot pie that will be sold in stores all over the region, possibly including Whole Foods in Devon.

Marion Greene, who owns Ithan Market with her husband Jim, created the recipe for her chicken pot pie about 12 years ago, and it has been a favorite of customers ever since. Greene said that she had never made the dish before and created her recipe becuase they had a lot of leftover rotisserie chicken to use.

The Ithan Market has been in business for 50 years.

To be able to sell their product in other stores, which sell in 2 and 6 lb. packages, the chicken pot pie has to be made in a USDA-approved facility. It has been a complicated process, but the Greenes are excited to bring their dish to the next level. The photo on the packaging was done by The Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr.

Greene said that both families and individuals like the chicken pot pie. It has the fat content that may be expected of the dish, but she said that the sodium content is much lower than other similar products.

The chicken is antibiotic-free, as is the lard, and un-enriched flour, so it is technically "all natural." There is 21 grams of fat, 9 grams of saturated fat, 65 mg of cholesterol, 520 mg of sodium, 42g of carbohydrates, 2 g of fiber, 5g of sugar, 20g of protein.

Percent of daily values: Vitamin A 25%, Vitamin C 6%, Calcium 10%, and Iron 5%.

The Greenes said they may next try to sell their shepherd's pie en masse.
