Gladwyne Village Lunch: A Hidden Gem

This week food writer Clara Park reviews Gladwyne Village Lunch in Gladwyne.

I love discovering new places. While I know the aisles at the Gladwyne Superfresh like the back of my hand and I have enjoyed plenty of great coffee beverages at Green Bean Coffee. I had never seen or heard of Gladwyne Village Lunch. It is completely hidden from the main roads. 

I arrived at Gladwyne Village Lunch on a sunny afternoon after a grueling yoga class. Starving and thirsty, I was eager to grab a quick lunch before meeting up with my cousins. I walked inside and couldn't get over how cozy and welcoming the space is. There's a clean 'L' shaped counter with ample seating and cobalt glass lamps overhead that appear purple. There are some smaller tables to the right, and you're greeted right away.

I perused the menu--they have breakfast in addition to lunch--and decided on the chicken salad sandwich with bacon on white toast. I asked for lettuce and tomato as well. The sandwich tasted homemade, which was awesome. The chicken was tender, the salad was well seasoned and it wasn't overly mayonaise-y. I liked the crisp bites of celery, and the tomato was ripe. The use of normal white bread made it a great sized sandwich. I hate it when places make their sandwiches with some ridiculously large loaf of bread. I can never eat the whole thing and have to save it for later--and never actually eat the rest of it. I ate this whole sandwich in one sitting.

There are numerous beverage choices including iced teas, sodas, juices and even the elusive Yoo-hoo. I enjoyed my lemon Snapple iced tea and cold bottled water.

The service is outstanding. I couldn't believe how easy going and friendly everyone in there was. I was even given two different bags so that the cold items wouldn't interfere with the hot items. The crowd was mostly regulars, which I understood completely. It's not difficult to see why people keep coming back.

As I mentioned earlier, the decor is cozy and comfortable, a clean and bright space for enjoying breakfast and lunch. Keep an eye out for the daily specials and make sure to head there earlier than later. I can't wait to go there for breakfast. It's a bit hidden from view, but it truly is a hidden gem.
