Bryn Mawr 100: Bryn Mawr Trust

The company received its charter in 1889.

Thanks to the presence of a bustling rail station and the consequent development of a host of businesses along Lancaster Avenue, Bryn Mawr underwent a period of robust growth in the 1880s. Before long, it was clear the town needed a bank.

On Aug. 3, 1887 they got one. Bryn Mawr National Bank received its charter, and by 1889 established the as an adjunct. The organizations set up shop in what was then known as Ramsey's Hall—the site that now holds the .

Hundreds of thousands of customers and 122 years later, The Bryn Mawr Trust Company has 17 full-service branches, including one in Delaware. At each, they provide personal and business banking and wealth management services.

At Bryn Mawr Trust, service is an operative word.

"We try to support all the communities that we're in," said senior vice-president Brian Maguire. "We do numerous financial sponsorships and we do a lot of volunteer work. We're an organization that believes in being involved in the community."

Maguire said that each of the bank's branches has an individual sponsorship budget.

In Bryn Mawr, this budget has gone toward, among other places, this past summer's , the Bryn Mawr Rotary Club, and the .

In somewhat farther flung locales, the bank has sponsored West Chester's Brian's Run, the Housing Partnership of Chester County, the , and adult education programs in Montgomery County.

"We're the lead sponsor of Brian's Run," Maguire added.

In addition to their community work, there's also the matter of banking. Things have gone well in that area too.

"A little over a year ago we acquired First Keystone," said Maguire, "and everything's been going great."
