Coffee Lecture: Northern Renaissance Art

Join Rosemont College President Dr. Sharon Latchaw Hirsh for a special coffee lecture through Rosemont College's non-credit program, the Forum. While, in the 14th and 15th centuries, Italy was developing a “Renaissance” or re-birth of classical art and ideals, artists in the north (Germany, Flanders) were maintaining medieval ideas and ideals but with a new appreciation for everyday, current life. The art that resulted – enhanced by the discovery of oil paints – was incredibly detailed and beautifully portrayed scenes that are full of “secret symbols,” which are a delight to discover.
