Broadway Rox—From the Ridge to the Main Line

A company who started in Roxborough moves on to Villanova.

Broadway Rox is now both off-Broadway and off-Roxborough. The cabaret show founded by Roxborough and Bryn Mawr residents hits the road with a Saturday show at in Villanova.

"This weekend's show is a cabaret/club style feel with six singers in a dimly lit lounge at Mixx. We are trying to take folks back to the feel of an old time supper club with weekly lounge acts... minus the cigars and gangsters," co-founder and Roxborough resident Ryan Tygh said.

With fellow performer Maggie Cummings, Tygh launched Broadway Rox last spring with four shows at in Roxborough. Due to a lack of follow through from city government—the—Broadway Rox left the venue for more solid footing.

"With the help of some of our close friends in the business, we have put together a pool of close to 20 singers who we use on a rotating basis for our performances," Tygh said. "Our singers vary in age and experience levels, but share many things in common, most importantly—talent and drive."

On Saturday, the below singers will perform:

  • Katie Romano—Recently seen at the Walnut Street Theater in Aspects of Love, and is a founding member of the Facetime Community Theatre.
  • John Jerbasi—Known for Toys In The Attic at the Tri-County Performing Arts Center.
  • Brian McKay—Mid-day radio host at Philly's country music station 92.5 WXTU.
  • Lauren Stephens—A senior at , who Tygh says has "enough talent to pack 10 Broadway houses." She recently played "Christine" in 's The Phantom of the Opera.

The lineup for Saturday will consist of 20 numbers from a variety of shows, like Spring Awakening, Rent, Les Miserable, and many others, including a song from the new Broadway show Ghost.

Tickets cost $10, and Tygh said seating is at 8 p.m. sharp. Mixx is located at 789 E. Lancaster Ave., Villanova, PA 19085. Visit the Facebook page for more info.
