The Birth Center Celebrates 9,000 Births

The Bryn Mawr center offers holistic gynecological care, community-based maternity care, and educational services to women across the Philadelphia region.

On Feb. 8 at approximately 5:30 a.m., The Birth Center in Bryn Mawr, a midwifery-based women’s healthcare center, welcomed its 9,000th baby.

Parents Emily and Eric of Philadelphia welcomed their first child—a healthy baby boy, Levi Vansetti Visco Rillstone, 7 lbs. 2 oz. and 20 inches long.  Baby Levi was not only the 9,000th baby at The Birth Center, but was also born on the 10th anniversary of his parents first date.

Baby Levi birth represents a special moment for The Birth Center, which opened in 1978.  The Birth Center provides women with a warm environment to give birth in a home-like setting with the support and care of certified nurse midwives.  It sets the standard for quality women’s healthcare throughout a women’s lifespan—offering holistic gynecological care, community-based maternity care, and educational services such as lactation consulting and childbirth classes to women across the Philadelphia region.

“I was honored to be part of Baby Levi’s birth experience,” said Gazelle Lange, CNM, midwife at The Birth Center.  “We believe that birth is a natural and emotionally empowering experience for women, and that the TBC model provides the best of all women’s healthcare services.”
