Wayne United Methodist Church's AmazingRace is Again a Hit!

Wayne, PA:  Early on the very chilly morning of Saturday, October 26th, South Wayne Avenue became the place to be as the second annual AmazingRace took off through the nearby neighborhoods.

The brainchild of Wayne United Methodist Church member Becky Douglas, the AmaxingRace was designed as outreach to connect the church with its many neighbors, while at the same time raising funds to help support the church’s wide variety of programs involving worship, education, and mission.  All activities are offered to further the church’s stated mission:  To know Christ, to build a genuine Christian community, and to be agents of God's grace locally, regionally, and globally.

Cash awards were given for first place overall, male and female, as well as to top runners in each age group.  Seventeen-year old Adam Twombly won first place overall among the male runners with a time of just 17:01 minutes.  Fifteen-year-old Abby Lord led the pack of female runners, crossing the line after just 22:35 minutes.  The youngest winning runners were Mimi Schrock and Ethan Zeh (9 and 12, respectively) and the oldest winning runners (in the over 60 category, enough said!) were Ann deLeon and Scott Petrie.  The crowd of about 75 participants also included a number of “joggers” and “walkers” who were there to promote the cause of fellowship and fundraising, while not hoping for a prize.

In addition to the support of the participants, Wayne UMC was also very thankful to its many local sponsors which included Bryn Mawr Running Company, Bryn Mawr Trust, Nolan Painting, Traynor Capital Management, Stratton Limited, Frank C Videon Funeral Home, Rich Switzer, Esq. and Stuard Funeral Home of the Main Line.

Through the cooperation of the church membership, volunteers, local sponsors and the runners & walkers who came from all over the Philadelphia area, the church gratefully announced a final fundraising tally of $6,000!  The 3rd Annual AmazingRace is already being planned for 2014.  Contact the church office for details.
